Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece, located in the Aegean Sea between the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strip of water.



There is the ecclesiastical museum which stands in the church of the Assumption of the Virgin. It contains clothing of priests and other holy items since 18th and 19th century. If you don’t feel like visiting a museum there are also many monasteries like the monastery of Agia Triada, Agios Nikolaos, Agia Matrona etc. Also someone can visit The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Source which is located in the port of Hydra Island.


If you are a museum enthousiast, then this island is the perfect place for you! Hydra island has many museums , including Lazaros Koundouriotis, a mansion dedicated to local history and culture. Koundouriotis was one of the heroic captains and ship owners that helped Greece on its independence together with the neigbouring island of Spetses.


Hydra protects its unique and beautiful architecture. The new buildings must stay in keep the island historic architectural style while maintaining the traditional hydriot character. A kind of naval island that transfers you back to the golden days of 60’s and the 70’s when use to be the beloved summer resort of the aristocracy of Athenian and many famous Greek like Niarchos and Livanos.

The top 10 of them are : Spilia, Molos, Agios Nikolaos, Mandraki, Limnioniza, Bisti, Avlaki , Hydroneta, Kaminia and Vlichos beach.
If you are a ship lover, a fan of museums, a partisan of greek taverns, a devotee of deep blue clean waters and beaches, then Hydra is your place. You can explore the island definitely by foot or by donkey (for the more romantic, even laziest one). In case you have enough time and be thrilled with exploration, visit nearby Peloponnese towns like Porto Heli Nafplio and Ermioni.
